Rule Proposals

Feel free to discuss the rules that I proposed today here

9 Comments:

  • Mummies - Not sure about this. Yes, they are nasty,
but do they fulfill the role of Big-Guy? That I am
not sure of. Without the Mummy the Undead team would
not be competitive. On the other hand, when you get
to the Khemri team, 4 mummies is excessive. SO it is
a matter of when to impose the General Access
restriction. Do you do so for Bull Centaurs? Right
now, Mummies are by far one of the best player in the
game, but when do you stop cutting something down and
accept that there has to be a best?

Free Agents – I have no problem with this. It is in
the spirit of HUMBBL. Original determination of who
would become available for permanent hire onto teams
was at the commissioner’s discretion. This simply
takes that fuzziness away. It is not perfect, but it
    will work.

Preseason Limits – I am having difficulty settling
here. In the case of the ‘Rogs (no intention to point
the finger – it is simply an example) an advanced team
has something to gain, and little to lose from a
lopsided game. That they would earn nothing or even
have to pay is not a problem in my eyes. A developed
team is likely to score several times and cause
several casualties, thereby advancing it players
further and possibly raising its fan factor, without
too much concern about player injury. The Pastor is
correct, a change of perception would help, but an
extra reason not to play wouldn’t hurt either.

Magic Items – The point of the magic item is to give
you extra bang for the buck. Yes, you get a skill or
a statistic, but do you really need to account for it?
As pointed out in our car discussion, the team rating
system is not particularly specific, nor accurate. It
simply gauges relative ability. So, generally, I do
not favor this proposal, I think the problem is
insufficient to warrant a fix. Would I have a problem
    if it were passed? No.

Number of new teams – I whole heartedly agree.

  • Do you do so for Bull Centaurs?

No, the real issue with the Mummies is that their starting strength is 5 not 4. They will still be one of the best players even when you remove general

but when do you stop cutting something down and
accept that there has to be a best?

I do accept that Chaos is the best if that helps...

  • Mummies: This is a good rule if Wights gain Strength access. Otherwise it punishes the Undead too severely.

Free Agents: Personally, I think a 2 through 5 should all allow the player to be available for purcase. In VERY few cases where a player would be released willingly from a team is the player good enough to be a star. we need differentiation I believe between a star and a free agent. A free agent should be easily higherable, a star should not.

    # of new teams: I strongly feel that a team should only be able to be created for a special tournament or a round. I am still against creation of a team strictly for pre-season play. With teams only being able to join for a special tournament or a round, a lower limit like this would be unneccesary (since a maximum of two teams can play in a round and usually 1 in a special tourney). Finally, 1 team type per coach should be are only upper limit.

Pre-season limits and magic items: I strongly feel these two rules are unneccesary as they will most likely be fixed (due to a new rule set) before next round. Specifically, "Dr. in the house" seems to be the issue in conjunction with "choose your own". When arguing against our current handicap system, this exact thing was one of Lord Helpful's primary things he said he liked about our current system. I guess he is under the sway of chaos.

That is some serious assumptions there! Do you not fix an oil leak in your car because you're going to buy a new one next year?

Specifically, "Dr. in the house" seems to be the issue in conjunction with "choose your own".

Actually, No, this is not the issue. The issue with the preseason games is that they are becoming lopsided affairs that only seem to help the grossly overpowered team

You are correct on both of these counts, It is what I like about our handicap system and I am under the sway of Chaos, they're a special bunch of guys!

  • Well, if pre-season is over and it will be fixed by next pre-season, what's the point?

As for Magic Items, I feel your proposal conflicts with our current (purposefully inaccurate) TR system.

preseason is not over yet, we have until the 20th to finish preseason games. I also think that the current round will be over before the next LRB changes are made

Would you mine explaining how added 2 to a teams rating conflicts with our system? Currently any magic Items that you get do not count against your rating, but cyberware and secret weapons do. I saw this as a reasonable way to adjust this discrepency

  • May is the next rules review.

  • I trolled around and found that in May the rules will be presented to GW, and hopefully by the end of 2006 there will be a new rule set.

This current round is designed to last 28 weeks, or almost 7 months.

It highly probable that our next round will start before a new LRB is made available.

  • There are two things:

    1) The next rules review (with relatively minor changes) will be in May.

    2) At the same time they will submit the final PBBL rules that will become the boxed set in 2007. The plan is new plastics etc... so the development process is relatively long.

So the full PBBL rules (aka: the next BB edition) won't be until mid 2007. Some subset will be released as a rules review in late May.
